What's this?
As part of Emote Appreciation day, I'm holding interviews with some of the members of our community. The third interview is with...

Interview
Phlum-dee-doo! I have my answers for you :la:

When did you start emoting? Do you think you've improved a lot since then?
My first emote was posted on my dA on March 1st, 2012. I think I’ve improved with pixelling in general, so it has made my emotes more visually appealing, but I want to keep going to do my best! It’s  been a short time since I started to make emotes so I have a long way to go ^^.

What do you think of the emoticon community as a whole?
I feel that everybody is really welcoming and nice. I know it wasn’t hard for me (at all) to make and find new people to talk with! I love interacting with other emoticonists and participating in the contests that are in place. It’s a great way to get inspiration for art (depending on a theme) but also an awesome way to be involved on dA!

What originally got you into the artform?
I started out using emotes in stamps, this is one of my first emote stamps: Stamp: Magical Powers by TheSaltyMonster This really got me thinking about making emotes by themselves and I experimented with my first one on a see-saw :la:

If you've been on hiatus at all, what brought you back?
My account is now 4 years old, I started when I was graduating from high school but I got really busy with college and haven’t used it for around 3 years. My old computer I used to make my deviations before also had a lot of problems. Last year I got programs for art related things on my laptop and viola I’m here! I became active towards the end of January this year, and I just enjoy art a lot, I had to give it a go!

If any, what artistic value do you see in emoticons?
Emoticons are a great expression form, whether it be in chat emotes or for visual purpose settings. They can really add to scene to make it pop and give more feeling! My favorite types are funny emotes doing silly things, because they always make me smile :)

Is emoting more about trying a load of different things or more about sticking to one thing and being really good at it?
Personally, I like to experiment with different types. I’ve done emotes in stamps, smaller emotes, larger emotes, and emotes in a setting. I love trying new things because it helps me grow as an artist and also discover what I like most.
What do you think of emotes in other artforms, for example vectors or digital paintings?
I think they are awesome! I love artisan crafts with emotes- I would totally buy a plushie emote, or emote earrings! ;)

For you personally, what is the best aspect of making emotes?
The process is really fun for me, I always look forward to the outcome! Making the expressions in an exaggerated way is too much fun :dummy:
